St George's Day at Blists Hill

Blists Hill Victorian Town, in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge will be celebrating our patron saint with two open-air performances of St George and the Dragon each day from St George’s Day, Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th April, and a Music Hall evening.
Travelling actors from the Prince Albert Players will perform the ancient legend daily at 12noon and 2pm; there will be no extra charge to watch the shows in addition to the museum entrance fee. The legend of St George and the Dragon, which probably dates back to the twelfth century, represents the triumph of good over evil. St George is thought to have been a Roman soldier who died a martyr’s death in 303. By the time of the Reformation, celebrations on St George’s day were a highlight of the social calendar.
There will also be an evening of patriotic Music Hall entertainment in the Victorian Town on St George’s Day, 23rd April. The music and monologues, together with a sausage and mash supper at the Forest Glen Refreshment Pavilion, will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets priced at £11 per person are now available from the shop at the entrance to Blists Hill.
Open 10am to 5pm daily, Blists Hill is one of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums. A Passport, to all ten valid for twelve months and multiple return visits, costs £21.95 per adult, £17.60 for the 60 plus, £14.25 for students and children and £59.95 for a family of two adults and three children aged up to 18 years in full time education; under 5s free. Individual museum entry tickets are also available.
