Captain David Younger - the Lord-Lieutenant of Tweeddale - officially opened McCarthy & Stone’s Venlaw View retirement development in Peebles, on Wednesday 14 April, 2010 by unveiling a commemorative plaque, and meeting several residents who have already chosen Venlaw View as their new home.

Venlaw View is a thriving community with over 50% of the 33 one and two bedroom apartments already sold and many residents calling this development ‘home’. The remainder of the development offers a good selection of one bedroom apartments, as well as one final two bedroom apartment, all of which are tailored to the needs of older people with on-site facilities such as a laundry-room, a central lounge for recreation and social events, a lift and a hotel-style guest suite for friends and family who wish to visit. Prices currently start from £165,950.

Plus, for added peace of mind there’s a 24-hour personal emergency service, as well as a TV security-system monitoring the main entrance. A house manager is responsible for daily management of gardeners, window-cleaners and maintenance staff, as well as helping to organise social events with the residents.

Staff and residents alike were honoured to welcome Captain David Younger to mark the official opening of Venlaw View as Steve Wiseman, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy & Stone comments: “I was absolutely delighted to welcome Captain David Younger to see for himself just how popular this style of retirement living is proving to be in Peebles.

“As Her Majesty's representative in Tweeddale, many of the residents were also very proud to welcome him to the development, and in fact into their own apartments – proving that your home really is your castle!”

Captain David Younger added: “I was thrilled to officially open Venlaw View in Peebles. May I thank Mr Wiseman and congratulate him and all his staff at McCarthy & Stone for such a magnificent development that’s delivering such comfortable retirement living right here in Peebles.”

The development is open daily from 10.30am -5pm.
