Support for Halifax customers affected by air travel disruption
Halifax has announced how it is supporting personal banking customers abroad that are affected by the disruption to air travel.
Helen Weir, Group Executive Director, Retail at Lloyds Banking Group, said: "We know that this is a difficult and potentially expensive time for many of our customers who are currently stranded overseas. This is a comprehensive package of support which will help our customers at the same time as they are trying to get home."
Contacting Customers
We are contacting our personal banking customers that are currently abroad, via text messaging, to inform them of the support that is available. Further information is also available on Halifax.co.uk.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance customers should in the first instance contact their airline or tour operator to see what help and assistance is available from them.
However where customers are not covered by the airline or tour operator, Halifax is prepared in these exceptional circumstances to provide extra support to all those customers who are eligible for travel cover through their Ultimate Reward Current Account or Travel Insurance policy by agreeing to reimburse them for any additional reasonable costs they incur as a result of the disruption.
Helping Customers Manage Their Money
We recognise that customers abroad may be facing temporary financial difficulty as a result of this unusual event. We are supporting our customers who need to access temporary additional credit facilities - through their overdraft or credit cards. This is subject to our usual policies.
Halifax will also waive any charges for Bank Account or Credit Card customers that have been incurred as a result of disruption to their travel. This will apply to charges for late payment or because a customer has inadvertently gone over their agreed credit limit while abroad.
