Taking the usual fashion, flamboyance and fun one step further, Perth Racecourse will be turning pink for its upcoming Ladies Day.

Ladies Day – which takes place on Thursday 13th May – is one of the most popular days on the racing calendar and undoubtedly, the most glamorous race day of the year. The colourful event not only attracts some of the UK's top jockeys, trainers and horses, but for the first time, looks set to attract racegoers dressed top to toe in pink, due to a new partnership with pioneering charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Set in the breathtaking parkland of historic Scone Palace, Ladies Day is recognised as a competitive event, not only for the stiff competition between horses on the field, but also between the ladies as they vie for the coveted ‘Best Dressed’ titles. To mark the partnership between Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Ladies Day, ladies and their mothers, sisters, daughters and friends are invited to dress in pink to be in with a chance of securing the new title of ‘Best Pink Outfit’. The new award will accompany the customary Ladies Day titles of ‘Best Dressed Lady’ and ‘Best Hat’. On the judging panel this year will be Maria Bartlett, Editor of Scottish Woman Magazine who will be awarding many fabulous prizes.

In 2008 Breakthrough Breast Cancer opened Scotland's first and only dedicated breast cancer research unit and is required to raise over £1 million a year to fund their research, education and campaigning work.

Sam Morshead, General Manager at Perth Racecourse said, “We are delighted to be supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer at this year's Ladies Day. It's a fantastic cause and one we are proud to be associated with.”

Proving that style is just as important an element of the day as the horse racing, image consultants will be on hand to provide style advice and four fashion shows from Phase Eight will take place between races and will be modelled by Miss Perthshire finalists.

The evening prior to Ladies Day presents a special night at the races and is Perth Racecourse’s first evening meeting of the summer. The Office Party Night, which takes place on Wednesday 12th May, promises great racing and, as the sun goes down after the races, the evening likewise promises great entertainment. With local rock band the 'The Original Windows' supported by their guests 'Three Card Trick', the Office Party Night is a great social occasion and presents the ideal Pre-Ladies Day celebration.

Sam Morshead continues, “This two day race meeting always proves popular with national jockeys. At this time of year, the track is in fantastic condition and as a result these two races attract top quality runners. Young horses often come here for their final run before being turned away for the summer and it goes without saying that the racing scouts will be nothing less than impressed!”

Main sponsors of the Office Party Night are building design and construction company Peter K Dale, manufacturing company Steadfast Scotland and the Isle of Skye whisky. Main sponsors of Ladies Day are Timothy Hardie jewellers and the Scottish SPCA.
