Doritos searches for the next Speilberg

3rd June 2010 Print

Imagine having the responsibility of making or breaking the career of one of Britain’s up and coming directorial talents. Well if you’ve ever thought you can pick a great movie from a dud or think you’d make a great BAFTA judge then it’s time to prove yourself.

Three young directors are desperate for your vote after being selected from a whopping 3000 entries over the last 12 weeks for their imaginative and original advertisements in the nationwide King of Ads competition.

Doritos set up the challenge to unearth new talent and tasked competitors to create the next big ad as part of the competition.  BAFTA winning director Noel Clarke and radio presenter Lauren Laverne were given the task of selecting the finalists but now it’s up to the public to decide on who will walk away with the top prize.

“We were looking for ads that showed innovation, creativity and ultimately were entertaining. We really wanted to see if we could unearth some amazing British talent and there’s no doubt we’ve done that,” says Lauren Laverne.

The three finalists are George McDonaugh from London, Rob Madin from Derbyshire and Craig Young from Walton Park and there are some pretty amazing incentives for them to capture the public’s imagination with their offering.

The winner will walk away with up to £200,000, but even more importantly will have their advert aired during  The World Cup, so make sure you take a look and vote for your favourite as you might be seeing quite a bit of it over the next month!

“The standard of entries was incredible and the contestants really took on the Doritos brief and had a lot of fun with it. The public are going to love the final three ads and I can’t begin to predict who’s going to win – it’s entirely up to the British public,” says Noel Clarke.

To add to the excitement, the banks of the Thames will play host to the biggest living room the UK has ever seen. Whilst showcasing the three final adverts, members of the public are invited to cast their vote for their favourite advert and experience a Guinness World Record being broken.

The larger than life lounge and setting for the advert screenings, will feature a gigantic sofa over 9 meters long, a 7 metre long coffee table, a lamp towering 4.5 meters high and not to mention a supersize TV and remote control.

Public voting for the Doritos King of Ads competition opened on 29th May and closes on the 10th June 2010. To cast your vote visit: doritos.co.uk

Live voting will also take place at the King of All living rooms @ Potters Field Park, Tooley Street, London SE1 2NN
