Weston Homes sponsor charity golf event

On Friday 4th June, 51 teams of golfers from across the country took part in the annual St Clare Hospice charity golf day, sponsored by Home Counties developer Weston Homes.
The popular annual event, which was held at Stoke By Nayland Golf Club, attracts teams of four who play throughout the day to raise funds for the palliative care provider St Clare Hospice, ensuring the organisation can continue supporting the West Essex and East Hertfordshire community.
The all day event ran as a competition and a host of prizes from state of the art TV’S and DVD players and even a BMW or Audi for a hole in one were up for grabs. Barry Hearn was amongst those playing and comedian Adger Brown also attended.
St Clare Hospice is dependent on fundraising support to provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and complementary therapy for in-patient units and Hospice Day Services. The annual golf day is one of the largest, single fundraising events for the hospice throughout the year.
Weston Homes have been the event’s main sponsor for more than a decade, Chairman and Chief Executive Bob Weston commented: “Each year we have supported St Clare Hospice Charity Golf Day because of the excellent work they do. They care for those in our community who are nearing the end of their lives, striving to make them as comfortable as possible. Without the St Clare Hospice’s untiring work, many people would suffer in silence. The year despite the economic downturn we raised a fantastic total of £33,500 – I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the worthy cause, which continues to be very close to our hearts.”
Richard Cowie, Chief Executive of St Clare Hospice, comments: “Each day costs £6,300 to keep St Clare running which totals £2.3million a year and the NHS only provides 30 per cent of this funding. This means we need to generate £4,000 a day to keep providing this vital support to the community."
