Ollerton residents take up summer garden challenge

Inspired by the recent RHS Chelsea Flower Show Miller Homes is encouraging residents at The Meadows development in Ollerton to roll up their sleeves, unearth their gardening tools and take up their summer garden challenge.
The competition is open to all residents on the development from 7th June with all entries to be at the development sales office by 5th July.
“Gardening has always been a national pastime of the British but has seen a resurgence over the last couple of years as more and more people explore the possibilities of growing herbs and vegetables as well as different varieties of plants in their gardens,” commented Ross Clarkson senior sales adviser Miller Homes Yorkshire. “We want to encourage our residents to actively develop their own piece of England’s green and pleasant land.”
The competition is to be judged by Jamie Dunstan, RHS Chelsea and Tatton Park award winning garden designer and proprietor of Gardeners’ Boutique, Braithwell, South Yorkshire.
“A brand new garden is a blank canvas which represents a real opportunity to start a really simple, yet effective, gardening scheme,” commented Jamie. “I’ll be looking for the most improved garden, so before and after photographs are essential. I’ll be looking not just for the most picturesque but also for the one that demonstrates eco-credentials and longevity for the future.”
Jamie’s top tips for a superb garden this summer include adopting a colour scheme where green is the main colour. Pink and mauve were also very popular at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
“I’d recommend keeping planting schemes simple by trying to stay to a colour palette and not using too many varieties of plant,” said Jamie. “Don’t forget to have a cosy, well designed area for sitting out in even during chillier summer evenings!”
Winners will be announced by the end of July with the lucky winner receiving £100 of Marks and Spencer voucher and the accolade of the best garden on The Meadows development of course!
The Meadows boasts a beautiful natural environment on its doorstep. Located in the newer part of Ollerton, opposite “The Sherwood Energy Village’’, the development is also close to all local amenities and schools. New homes available include; three bedroom townhouses from £137,495, three bedroom detached homes from £156,500 and four bedroom detached properties from £194,500.
