Renault Megane and Scenic special editions

Those on the hunt for a bargain in the New Year sales should make sure they visit their local Renault dealer, as several special editions hit the showrooms shortly.

The Mégane ‘Freeway’ and Mégane and Scénic ‘Extreme’, with prices starting from as little as £8,988 on-the-road, mean that even the usual overspend at Christmas shouldn’t stop you from indulging in a new car for 2007.

Mégane Freeway

The first of the new additions to the 2007 Mégane range is the Mégane Hatch 1.4 16V 100 ‘Freeway’ limited edition, which, with an on-the-road price of just £8,988 incredibly costs £1,692 less than the original Mégane Hatchback RN 1.4e when it was launched in the UK in 1995 at £10,690! Even in today’s prices, the new model represents a saving of nearly £2,700 compared to the current entry-level Mégane Hatch Authentique 1.4 16V 100 on which it’s based, allowing buyers to deck their driveways with a spacious family hatchback for the price of a supermini this New Year.

This new limited edition is specifically targeted at price conscious retail buyers and will be available as a five-door Hatch-only with the 1.4 16V 100 engine. Nevertheless, it still comes comprehensively equipped with ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), electric front windows, Keyless car with Renault Card for locking and ignition and trip computer. The only option available will be metallic paint and it is available to order now.

Mégane and Scénic Extreme

The current Mégane Extreme range, previously only available as a three-door Sport Hatch, has now had up to £1,150 worth of extra equipment added to it, as well as seen its line-up quadrupled to take advantage of the huge market for sporty-looking family cars.

The new Extreme range is now available in three-door Sport Hatch and five-door door Hatch for Mégane, and five- and seven-seat versions of Scénic, with prices starting at £11,670 for Mégane and £14,415 for Scénic. The Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet Extreme is unaffected as it has recently been revised as part of the new 2007 Coupé-Cabriolet model year range.

Based on their Authentique equivalents, the new Extreme special editions offer up to £1,150 worth of extra equipment, including 16” alloy wheels (£500), air conditioning (£400), ‘TunePoint’ multimedia system (£150) and integral metallic paint (£100 where metallic paint is ordered). Subtly distinguishing the new special editions from the rest of the range, Mégane models feature unique carbon upholstery with red detailing (silver on Scénic), together with an Extreme badge on the rear window.

One of the most notable features on the new Extreme is the new TunePoint system which first appeared on the new Clio Campus Sport i-music several months ago and has now proven so popular that it is being offered to these latest additions to the Mégane and Scénic family.

Housed in the glovebox, the multi-functional TunePoint unit allows you to plug one of your Christmas present multi-media devices (iPod, USB stick, MP3 and other types of portable music player) into one of its three ports and then navigate through your favourite tracks via the steering wheel-mounted fingertip controls.

In addition to the extra features added for 2007’s Extreme models, the standard equipment level is already high, including ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), electric front windows (with driver’s one-touch), Keyless car with Renault card for locking and ignition and trip computer.

The new special editions will be produced for most of 2007 and are expected to be popular with retail buyers.
