Take a trip to County Clare this summer and discover the Emerald Isle’s historic past at its best, with a luxurious stay at Dromoland Castle, Ireland’s most distinguished and historic castle hotel, where you’re sure to feel regally pampered from the moment of arrival.

Dating back to the 16th century, this magnificent five-star resort is set amidst 410 acres of breathtaking scenery with its own lake and rolling meadows and provides a luxurious base for discovering Ireland’s ancient history, with a superb selection of fascinating castles and historic sites nearby, including the castles of Bunratty, Knappogue and Craggaunowen.

Restored in 1954, the spectacular Bunratty Castle boasts 15th century furnishings, tapestries and artwork whilst the Bunratty Folk Park brings 19th century Ireland to life and offers an incredible insight into the lives of Ireland’s medieval past with over 30 buildings and street characters recreating village life.

County Clare is also home to Knappogue Castle and Walled Garden - a fine example of a traditional walled tower house. Built in 1467, Knappogue is steeped in history and was confiscated by Oliver Cromwell’s parliament.

Craggaunowen Castle, in the grounds of Craggaunowen Park, was left in ruins in the 17th century but restored in the 1960’s to its former glory, whilst the ruins of Leamaneh Castle, set within the magnificent Burren National Park, boast direct connections with Dromoland Castle, since the stately entrance gates and elegant fireplace were moved to the castle hotel in 1902.

With 99 individually-styled rooms and suites, a golf course designed by Ron Kirby, a leisure area with pool, sauna and Jacuzzi and the chic Spa at Dromoland with its pampering treatments, hair salon and relaxing outdoor hydro tub, it’s a haven of relaxation after a day’s sightseeing and gourmets will adore the resort’s elegant Earl of Thomond restaurant with its divine menu and exquisite wine list from the resort’s vast private wine cellar.

Aside from Ireland’s ancient Kings, Dromoland Castle has hosted many royal guests from the King and Queen of Spain to the Prince and Princesses of Japan – as well as Hollywood royalty such as Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and John Travolta.

Dromoland Castle offers guests five-star luxury from £198 per room per night* in a sumptuous Queen Anne room including full Irish breakfast each morning and a gourmet dinner in the Earl of Thomond restaurant on an evening of your choice. The hotel is within easy reach of Shannon Airport with access to regional airports across the UK.
