'Go See This' in Greater Manchester
Planning your weekend just got easier with the launch of Go See This (goseethis.com), a new comprehensive online guide to what’s going on in Greater Manchester.
The site will also see Manchester leading the way internationally, as it becomes the first major city to introduce integrated online ticketing across its venues.
Instead of trawling through individual websites, Go See This allows residents a quick, stylish and simple forum to allow them to view what’s happening in the region’s theatres, galleries and museums and other cultural attractions on any given day. The event information is automatically shared on the tourist board website visitmanchester.com to benefit visitors to the city.
Anyone in a quandary about where to go will also have access to bite-size news and reviews from those in the know on the latest comedy, theatre, dance, art and exhibitions, music and days out in the region, helping them to make an informed decision on where they want to go and what they want to see.
Once people have made their selection, the beauty of goseethis.com is that bookings for ticketed events can be made through the site’s box office feature, helping save time and making going out in all the Greater Manchester boroughs easier than ever before.
Visitors to the site can search by date, genre or keyword to find exactly what they’re looking for and even have the option to save their preferences and interests to create their own profile. They can also share their own recommendations by adding comments to events they’ve attended.
This means that each time they visit the site the homepage will contain the latest information and recommendations on news and events that are of interest. The site can even generate planned itineraries for one or more days worth of activity - perfect if you’re looking for ways of entertaining guests.
The Go See This website was created by All About Audiences the audience development agency for arts and culture in the North West.
The site has been made possible by funding from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) as part of a project which includes feeding the What’s On information to Visit Manchester’s destination website. Financial support for Go See This has also come from Renaissance North West.
Nick Brooks-Sykes, Director of Tourism at the NWDA, said: “Arts and culture are an important part of the visitor offer here in England’s Northwest and by integrating Go See This with Visit Manchester, we can offer visitors and residents an easy way to plan and book great days out across Greater Manchester. We hope that this collaborative project will lead the way for other arts organisations and tourist boards across the region to work together on similar projects.”
Nick Reed, Chief Executive at The Bridgewater Hall said: "Greater Manchester has museums, concert halls and arts venues of all shapes and sizes. These organisations have always worked together to help create a world-class programme of events, and yet there has never been one website for people to find out all that’s going on and also book tickets directly on it at the same time. So we’ve been glad to support Go See This which is a brilliant new way for people to discover, recommend and book tickets across the full range of attractions."
Ivan Wadeson, Chief Executive of All About Audiences comments: “We want goseethis.com to be the site people automatically go to when they’re planning their free time and have designed it to make it as informative, visually stimulating and interactive as possible to achieve this. We think it will genuinely help people discover a whole new range of things to do in the city region and will be especially useful for people who are unsure about what to go and see.”
All the major cultural venues in the city and wider Greater Manchester region are already listed on the site including Imperial War Museum North, Manchester Art Gallery, the Royal Exchange, The Lowry, Contact, Band on the Wall, The Met in Bury, Octagon Bolton, Oldham Coliseum and with more to follow throughout 2010.
