The Scirocco R Cup heads to the Norisring this weekend (2-3 July 2010) for the third round of the eco-conscious championship with an added touch of glamour making a debut on the grid.  Model and presenter of German reality show ‘Germany’s Next Top Model’, Miriam Höller, joins guest drivers from Formula 1, rallying, sports and touring cars competing against a line-up of professional and rookie drivers.

The 22-year old model, making her racing debut in her home city, will line up with five more legendary names from the world of motorsport in Nuremberg, at the only city street circuit on the calendar for the innovative CNG-powered one-make series.  Swiss ex-Formula 1 driver Marc Surer joins German trio Christian Abt, Ralf Kelleners and Bertram Schäfer and Polish rally expert Krzysztof Ho?owczyc.

The third race of the season will see single-seater specialists Surer and Schäfer make the switch into ‘tin-top’ cars.  Marc Surer worked his way up through various single-seat championships finishing second in the 1976German Formula 3 championship and claiming overall victory a year later in the European Formula 2 championship.  He then went on to compete in 82 Formula 1 races and now co-commentates the Formula 1 coverage on Sky Deutschland.  Bertram Schäfer has been a key figure on the German Formula 3 scene for more than 30 years.  Since 1975 the driver from Bitburg has served on the board of the Formula 3 Association which stands for the organisation of the Formula 3 Cup.

With Christian Abt and Ralf Kelleners, Volkswagen is bringing two legendary names of sports and touring car racing together.  Abt celebrated the drivers’ title in the 1999 STW Championship and, as driver and team owner, also helped to establish Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline as a championship-winning team in the DTM.  Ralf Kelleners competes in the Grand Am and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in the United States.

Krzysztof Ho?owczyc also makes a switch, from rally stage to race circuit, as he makes his Scirocco R Cup debut.  Regarded as a sprint rally ace, Ho?owczyc is a cross-country rallying expert with previous experience in both the World Rally Championship and gruelling Dakar Rally.

The season highlight at the Norisring marks the premiere of live stream broadcasts for the Scirocco R Cup, which is the first DTM partner series to offer a live stream video of its race broadcasts.  The programme is available with English commentary through the World Feed and will start at 17:00 GMT on Saturday 3 July 2010.  It can be viewed at volkswagen-motorsport.com/livestream

In addition to the field combining young, emerging talent and seasoned motorsport pros, the Scirocco R-Cup features innovative technological and sporting concepts. Pure bio natural gas which, on balance, reduces the overall CO2 emissions of the Cup by 80 per cent is used as fuel. Throughout the race, the push-to-pass system offers a limited number of additional power boosts of 30 PS to ensure close racing.
