England World Cup exit sends Ryanair sales soaring

6th July 2010 Print

Ryanair today confirmed that it has recorded the best week of bookings at Liverpool last week after England`s football team crashed out of the World Cup.

Football fans are still keen to make plans to leave the country with record sales continuing this week after the national football team returned home without the World Cup.

Ryanair said that week on week comparisons showed its guaranteed lowest fares routes from UK surged to all destinations – except Germany, after the German team ended England`s World Cup dreams.

To console World Cup weary fans Ryanair is releasing 500,000 £9 seats for travel across its European network in September and October which are available for booking on ryanair.com until midnight (24:00hrs) Thursday (8th July).

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said

“English football fans sent our booking system into overdrive as soon as their football team crashed out of the World Cup with bookings soaring by 30% in just one week to destinations throughout Europe – except Germany.  It is clear that football fans wanted to snap up one of Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares, before the national team returned to England, so that they could look forward to a great value summer holiday.

“To console English soccer fans for this early World Cup exit we are releasing 500,000 £9 seats for travel in September and October so that fans have something to look forward to now that their World Cup dreams have ended for another four years.”
