Distinctive new homes from Redrow

Homes from the New Heritage Collection are helping to set Redrow apart from the competition right across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
The highly distinctive, ‘Arts & Crafts’ influenced new homes are now available at several locations, including Hambleton and Sherburn-in-Elmet, near Selby, in North Yorkshire, Barton-upon-Humber and Grimsby in North Lincolnshire, plus Doncaster in South Yorkshire.
They’re also about to be introduced in Halifax, West Yorkshire and, subject to planning permission, in Ringinglow, near Sheffield.
But it’s not just their traditional looking exteriors with carefully researched, period-style features that make Redrow’s New Heritage Collection homes stand out from the crowd; they also boast a superior interior specification unseen in most new homes.
“There’s an emphasis on convivial open plan living spaces, fashionable kitchen designs with floor to ceiling cabinets, central islands, top brand name appliances and even American style integrated fridge-freezers in some of the larger properties,” says Patsy Aicken, sales manager for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire).
“Bathrooms are sleek, modern and pleasing to the eye, with a tile range that is unique to Redrow. It’s fair to say this top-notch specification is unrivalled among most of our peers – and customers have been amazed at how much is included as standard.”
Just as the Arts & Crafts era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries grew from the desire to bring back the skill and creativity of the individual craftsman and revive the simplicity and honesty in the way buildings and furnishings were made, Redrow has deliberately set out to reintroduce a high degree of individuality to the way its homes look and feel.
One of the most popular and enduring of domestic architectural styles, the Arts and Crafts influence can be seen in many so-called ‘character’ homes from later periods, especially the 1920s and 1930s.
External features which typify the era include dropped eaves, projecting plinths, bays and other distinctive window styles, often with leaded lights. Timber or tiled canopies over doors and windows, supported by decorative gallows-style brackets, plus the use of larch lap boarding are also prevalent.
Patsy adds: “Research among our customers told us they wanted a traditional looking home, preferably detached, with a good size garden and, ideally, its own garage; a home that was perhaps evocative of the one they grew up in. Their list of ‘must-haves’ inside included statement-making kitchens and bathrooms, high quality fixtures and fittings and built-in energy efficiency. We’ve successfully wrapped all this up in The New Heritage Collection.”
With fully furnished show homes already open at Saxon Court, in Sherburn in Elmet, Mulberry Grange, in Hambleton, Fox’s Fold, at Barton upon Humber, and Kirk’s Paddock, in Grimsby, there’s ample opportunity for would-be home owners to see the new collection in-situ. It’s also being sold ‘off-plan’ at Danum St Giles, in Doncaster.
