Drivers urged to safeguard their summer holiday

Auto Windscreens is advising motorists that spending as little as £3 on vehicle maintenance this summer could safeguard them from a potential killer lurking under the bonnet.

Recent research findings by the Health Protection Agency found that windscreen wiper water may be the cause of 20% of cases of Legionnaires’ disease in England and Wales.

The current dry weather is providing the perfect breeding ground for the potentially lethal Legionella bacterium which thrives in warm water systems that are not cleaned out. Using a purpose-made screen wash contains agents which stop the growth of deadly bacteria in the wash reserve.

The national automotive glazing services company also advises that using a purpose-made screen wash not only has the added benefit of cleaning a windscreen more effectively but also lubricates the wiper blades to minimise the risk of scratching.

Auto Windscreens Sales and Marketing Director, Nigel Davies, said: “Adding screen wash to your vehicle is a small price to pay to safeguard your health and that of your friends and family this summer. As well as potentially saving lives, screen wash will definitely save you money as it will prolong the life of your wiper blades.”

If drivers are unsure how to add screen wash to their reserve, staff at Auto Windscreens national network of fitting centres are on hand to help. Simply visit autowindscreens.co.uk to locate your nearest Auto Windscreens fitting centre.
