Early Clio interest in Renault’s 35th year

Renault Before the 2008 ELF Renault Clio Cup season has officially ended, enquiries are being fielded regarding the 2009 season, which will mark the 35th anniversary of Renault’s one-make saloon-car debut in UK motorsport.

Next year is the 10th season since Clio Cup racing returned to the BTCC support bill following four years when the Renault Sport Spider was used in its place - a period that saw Andy Priaulx and Jason Plato triumph in the one make series.

While many current drivers have indicated a desire to return after another action-packed season, Renault Sport UK has had calls from drivers in several other one-make series at national and club level as well as from other areas of the sport such as rallying.

Recent media reports highlight Ginetta racer Daniel Lloyd’s switch to Clio Cup, as the series continues to attract interest from other championships around the country.

Clio Championship Manager Simon North said: “35 years of unbroken involvement in British motorsport is something Renault can be rightly proud of and is testament to the hundreds of drivers who helped make the series what it is.”
