Ibiza to host Beach Polo Cup 2010

For the first time, Ibiza will play host to the four day Beach Polo Cup 2010 which commences at 5pm on Thursday 29th July at the popular Playa d’en Bossa.

The event which will be attended by the world’s best polo players as well as a number of celebrity lovers of the sport, is a first for the Balearics and will be a non-stop display of skill and talent.

In another sporting first for the island, The 1st Ibiza Beach Polo Cup will kick off at the ‘Club Don Toni’ Hotel in the popular Playa d’en Bossa on 29th July 2010. The 3 day event will begin with an initial press presentation and photographs of the teams and their colours with the first round of matches kicking off at 6.30pm. From then onwards both teams and spectators can expect a non-stop display of skill and talent with matches on the Friday also commencing at 6.30pm and matches on the Saturday commencing at the slightly earlier time of 5.30pm. The event will draw to a close on Saturday 31st July after the final match with a prize giving ceremony and presentation.

Prior to this event, the Beach Polo Cup has been held in cities such as Miami, Dubai and the trendy Punta del Este in popular polo country Uruguay. For 2010, the event organisers have chosen the cosmopolitan island of Ibiza and more specifically the borough of Sant Josep representing a first for the Balearic Islands. Ibiza has long been a popular holiday spot thanks to its privileged Mediterranean location, the small and tranquil coves dotted around the coast, the sparkling turquoise waters and the unrivalled nightlife. For summer 2010 Ibiza looks forward to welcoming a wide range of personalities during the Beach Polo Cup from the world of sport, television and fashion, many of whom are already confirmed to cheer on the competing teams in this exclusive competition.

4Polo Management, the company who are organizing the event, and it’s director, Gabriel Iglesias, himself an internationally renowned polo player, have ensured every finest detail has been covered to ensure a smooth and successful competition. A specialised team of vets will be on site throughout the event that will be responsible for the care of the sixty horses that will take part in this tournament.

Its players are considered sportsmen of the highest pedigree and much effort is made in the scouting of new talent.
