Pedal your way through London this summer

21st July 2010 Print

There is always plenty to do in London during the summer months, and this year the choice is better than ever, thanks to the launch of the cycle scheme.

Accommodation in the Capital can be pricey however, so city explorers wishing to make the most of the fresh-air fun should head to Kensington’s stylish boutique hotel The Rockwell. The hotel’s refreshing “3 for 2” and “7 for 5” summer offers will leave guests with plenty of change to make the most of a summer break in the city!

Since its opening in 2006, the hotel has established itself as a firm favourite of both Londoners and out-of-towners looking to stay in a neighbourhood with some of the best parks, museums and shops in London. There are 40 individually designed guestrooms at The Rockwell, all of which feature contemporary styling with a distinctly English twist. All rooms have en-suite luxury shower rooms, equipped with fluffy cotton bathrobes and White Company toiletries.

The Rockwell’s central location on the Cromwell Road in South Kensington makes it just a stone’s throw from a host of summer activities. With the current boom in cycling and the launch of the London cycle scheme there has never been a better time to explore London on two wheels. Spend a morning cycling the tourist trail, starting at the nearby Natural History Museum; continuing up through Hyde Park, past the famous landmarks Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament; before docking your bike at London Bridge to explore the many culinary delights of Borough Market.

Head back to Hyde Park for a picnic and a refreshing dip in the Serpentine Lido, then relax on one of the sun loungers before cycling back to The Rockwell for a well-deserved siesta.

For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, enjoy a walk through nearby Holland Park, considered by many to be the most romantic park in London due to its secluded woodland walks and breathtaking views. Film buffs should explore the area around Notting Hill and Portobello to relive famous celluloid moments from a host of films including Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Withnail & I and of course Notting Hill.

Make the most of the long, balmy summer nights and visit Holland Park’s open air theatre, or pick up a Harrods Gourmet Picnic and take a trip to the giant open air cinema at Somerset House. Back at The Rockwell enjoy alfresco drink or dinner in the hotel’s restaurant and bar One-Eight-One, which features a wonderfully relaxing terraced garden. For an extra dose of sunshine choose one of the hotel’s Garden Rooms, which come complete with outside patios and garden furniture and provide an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of London.

With so much summer fun taking place on its doorstep there really is no better place to stay this summer than The Rockwell!
