Mallorca celebrates Frederic Chopin

Playing tribute to Mallorca’s most famous musical visitor, Frederic Chopin, the Balearic island is celebrating his bicentenary year with a vibrant season of classical concerts.

Many of Mallorca’s established international festivals will be featuring Frederic Chopin in their programmes, including:

August - Chopin Festival, Valldemossa
Various performances will be taking place every Sunday in the atmospheric cloisters of Valldemossa's Cartuja Monastery, where Chopin composed during his stay. This year’s programme primarily consists of works by Chopin, but there's music by other composers too, performed by renowned musicians and up-and-coming talents.

26 August and 23 & 30 September - Deia International Festival, Son Marroig
This long-established music festival is holding three concerts featuring works by Chopin. The concerts will be held in Son Marroig, a beautiful estate that once belonged to the Austrian Archduke Luis Salvador and provides an idyllic setting with beautiful gardens, overlooking the cliffs and sea.

August to October - Puerto Soller Classical Music Festival
Now in its sixth year, the Puerto Soller Festival starts on 21 August with an open-air piano concert featuring the music of Arensky and Rachmaninow. On 25 September, pianist Alexander Malter performs his tribute to Chopin. Concerts run through to the end of October, taking place in the former Santa Catalina monastery.

October to November - Musical Mallorca Festival, Palma
This vibrant festival brings together an eclectic mix of international artists, starting on 9 October, with an inaugural concert, whilst on 16 October a special bicentenary tribute to Chopin will take place. Concerts are programmed through to 9 November.
