Let your passion change your life

Despite our busy lives, new research shows we are still a nation driven by our hobbies and passions.

It appears the vast majority of us have a passion, hobby or pastime; from dancing to stamp collecting, board games to train-spotting there’s not much we haven’t tried.

But while we may not be shy in trying new things, many of us are bashful when it comes to admitting what we’re passionate about, with nearly half of people saying they often don’t talk to other people about their interests.

This seems to get worse as we get older, as more than a third of adults confessed to being more worried about what people think of their interests now than they did when they were children.

But now it appears the increasing popularity of talent shows like Britain’s Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing may be inspiring many of us to celebrate our hobbies. And more than one in ten of us say that’s given us the confidence to try a new hobby or dedicate more time to a current interest.

One man who took the plunge and shared his passion with his family is pleased by how his passion helps educate others, “People have a misconception of Vikings and have little or no knowledge of Viking times so it’s also great to know that I am educating people about my passion through the living history and combat displays. Hopefully by seeing what I do I’m also encouraging people to be proud of their own hobbies and not be embarrassed to speak about them.”

So what can you do if you’d love to really let your passion flourish? Well, a new campaign is searching for those of us with special interests to come forward and apply for the Wall’s Bring it on Britain Awards scheme to help take these personal passions to the next level.
