Total Control Racing among four additions to Clio Cup grid

Total Control Racing has named two of its drivers for the 2009 ELF Renault Clio Cup with series returnee Mike Robinson (Effingham) joined by karting champion Sam Tordoff (Leeds). Registrations have also been received from APO Sport’s Alex Osborne (Northampton) and reigning SaxMax champion James Colburn (Worthing) who will race for Westbourne Motorsport.

TCR is aiming to field a minimum of four cars as it bids to add to ELF Renault Clio Cup titles for Jonathan Adam and Tom Onslow-Cole in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Robinson finished an impressive sixth overall in his debut ELF Renault Clio Cup season in 2008, picking up two podiums among 12 top-10 finishes. Tordoff has been a rising star on the British karting scene, winning the 2007 Renault Super One Formula ICA title before finishing sixth in last season’s Renault Super One KF1 Championship.

Alex Osborne has scored superbly consistent results in his family-run APO Sport car, finishing 14th overall in 2008 with five top-10 finishes. In 2007 he finished 21st out of 50 competitors and continues to embody the traditional privateer spirit of Clio Cup racing against several professional teams.

James Colburn comes to Clio Cup as a car racing champion despite being only 16-years-old. In his two seasons of racing in the SaxMax Championship, he finished seventh in 2007 before taking the title with seven wins from 10 races in 2008.

The quartet join Coastal Racing duo Carl Bradley (Morecambe) and Ant Scragg (Tunbridge Wells) in joining the ELF Renault Clio Cup, which gets under way in support of the British Touring Car Championship on 4th/5th April. Official testing takes place at Silverstone National circuit on Tuesday, 24th March.
