Back to the future at Saxon Court

A time capsule has been buried at Redrow Homes’ Saxon Court development, in Sherburn in Elmet, as part of celebrations to mark 100 years of Girlguiding in the UK.
Members of Sherburn in Elmet Guides, Brownies and Rainbows were invited to bury their capsule in an area of open space at Saxon Court.
As a result the girls, all aged five to fourteen, have ticked off one more of the challenges they must complete in a bid to score 100 points and earn a special ‘Adventure 100’ badge.
Guide leader Alison Wadsworth explained: “The Girlguiding organisation celebrates its 100th birthday on 20-10-2010 with lots of events taking place in the year leading up to the anniversary. The ‘Adventure 100’ badge encourages members to take part in a wide range of activities from climbing mountains to learning to dance; and from ice skating to making a video.
“Planning a time capsule, deciding what to put in it and arranging for it to be buried is just one of the many things our girls have been doing. The challenge is divided into 10 sections and the time capsule ticks a number of boxes as it encourages the girls to share the adventure and look to the future. We’re very grateful to Redrow Homes for providing us with somewhere to bury our box of mementos and memories.”
Anyone opening the girls’ time capsule in the future will have a fascinating insight of life as it’s lived today, as each member has included pictures of themselves, a note explaining why they have buried it, a local newspaper and badges amongst other items.
Redrow Homes have been celebrating some ‘history’ of their own with the launch of the New Heritage Collection.
Patsy Aicken, sales manager for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire), said: “The New Heritage Collection, which is available at Saxon Court and nearby Mulberry Grange, marks a return to Redrow’s roots of building traditional family homes. Externally the homes are influenced by the ‘Arts and Crafts’ era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, inside they are bright, modern and fully equipped for 21st century family life.
“With that in mind, we could think of no better way to commemorate the New Heritage Collection than by helping the local Guides, Brownies and Rainbows celebrate their centenary by inviting them to bury their time capsule at Saxon Court.”
Close to the market town of Selby, Saxon Court offers a choice of three and four-bedroom homes with prices from £179,950.
Three professionally dressed, fully furnished show homes are now open at Saxon Court. To see them for yourself, visit the development in Moor Lane, open daily from 10am to 5.30pm.
