A festival of culture on the Amalfi Coast

29th July 2010 Print

The Ravello Music Festival, one of Italy’s most famous summer culturefests, is on until September 26th. Holiday Velvet, a holiday rental agency with over 6,000 short-term rental properties in locations including Rome, Barcelona, Paris and Venice, announces that it still has availability for holiday apartments and villa rentals along the Amalfi coast for those who would like to visit the festival.

Staged in one of the most a alluring towns, not just along the Amalfi Coast but also in all of Italy, the Ravello Festival has been in existence since 1953. It was originally called ‘The Wagner Festival’, gaining leverage from the dace that the German composer visited Ravello in 1880, staying in the 13th century Villa Rufolo where he wrote the third act of Parsifal, his operatic opus.

The Ravello Festival soon moved away from staging exclusively Wagnerian works to encompassing others in the classical genre. These days the festival’s eclectic programme moves between orchestra and chamber music, jazz and dance with many of the events staged in the Villa Rufolo itself or its gardens with their magnificent views over the gulf. This year’s line-up, which opened with the actor John Malkovich performing in The Infernal Comedy, includes the Brazilian superstar Toquinho (July 30th), a Mozart Marathon (August 20th) and a special dawn concert for Sant Lorenzo (the ‘night of the shooting stars’) on August 11th.

To see any of these great events, Holiday Velvet can offer vacation apartments and villas along the Amalfi Coast, in key locations including Positano, Sorrento and Ravello itself. For example, in the little town of Ravello Scala (1km outside Ravello) a small villa with accommodation for four people and terrace can be booked for 100 Euros per night.

“If anyone is interested in booking holiday accommodation on he Amalfii Coast they really need to move quickly,” says Vanessa de Souza Lage, co-director of: holiday-velvet.com

“Although exclusive, the Almalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most coveted holiday destinations. The Ravello Festival is a wonderful time to visit it”.
