Renault announces new Kangoo pricing

7th May 2009 Print
Renault Kangoo Continuing Renault’s relentless product offensive, the latest new model to join the company’s ever-growing range is New Kangoo, priced from £11,200 on-the-road.

Available to order now, New Kangoo boasts several significant changes over its predecessor. Arguably the most important, is that in a bid to give improved comfort, ride and handling, the newcomer is built on a Scénic platform.

On the outside, New Kangoo features more contemporary lines, but remains true to its characterful roots. Overall length has increased by 180mm to 4213mm, width by 102mm and the wheelbase has grown by 95mm to 2697mm. With short front and rear overhangs, these dimensions translate directly into generous, class-leading interior space.

Five adults can be accommodated in comfort, with the rear passengers in particular, benefiting from much greater leg (+43mm) and elbow room (+109mm). The rear bench provides three full seat spaces, with best-in-class legroom of 210mm – an increase of 43mm and on a par with premium saloons. Up front, driver and passenger also enjoy class-leading elbow room: 1,510mm, an increase of 90mm on the previous model.

Throughout the cabin, its clever packaging and versatile nature make New Kangoo ideal family transport, while its appeal will extend to older couples who appreciate the higher driving position and space that’s easy to use for transporting pets, leisure equipment or holiday essentials.

The redesigned cabin also reflects improved ergonomics and quality, with a new-look MPV-style dashboard, plus new trim and upholstery materials throughout. The environment is bright and airy, with a large glazed area and efficient ventilation, including an optional climate control system and, according to grade, additional rear cabin vents.

New Kangoo also offers ample scope for carrying bulky items. The 60:40 rear seat folds down in one simple movement to give a completely flat load space, thanks to its ‘Flat Floor’ system, which allows the rear seat base to slide forward into the footwell and the rear seat back to fold down in its place. When combined with the folding front passenger seat, it gives an even more versatile and cavernous load space, with load volume boosted from 660 litres to 2,866 litres. What’s more, in this configuration the vehicle can carry objects that are 2.5m in length.

No opportunity has been wasted to provide clever storage solutions throughout the cabin. According to version, these include a capacious front overhead shelf, three aviation-style lockers for the rear seat passengers, underfloor storage, large door bins, map pockets and numerous other slots, shelves and cubby holes that have a combined capacity of 77 litres. In addition to the six possible seating and load configurations, a multi-position rear parcel shelf features on Expression, which can bear weights of up 50kg.

In keeping with its utility MPV nature, New Kangoo also premieres innovative roof bars that convert into a luggage rack. No tools are needed and the rack can take loads of up to 80kg. Lastly, an ingenious rear roof flap can be specified as an option for carrying tall items.

New Kangoo: engines and transmissions
Powering New Kangoo is a range of five engines, including the flagship 1.5 dCi 106 with six-speed gearbox for the first time. Three other dCi common rail diesel engines are available – dCi 68 and dCi 86 delivering fine balances of performance, fuel efficiency and low emissions. Thanks to their all-round environmental performance, including sub-140g/km CO2 emissions, both of these engines gain membership of Renault’s eCO2 club.

In addition, New Kangoo is available with Renault’s reliable 1.6 8V and responsive 1.6 16V four-cylinder petrol engines, the latter available later in the year with the option of four-speed Proactive automatic transmission in place of the standard five-speed manual gearbox, a distinct rarity in its class.

New Kangoo: UK range structure
Available to order now, the new range comprises two trim levels: Extreme and Expression, with a choice of five engines, and crucially, an automatic gearbox option.

The entry-level Extreme offers a wealth of equipment, including 30W audio system with auxiliary point and fingertip controls, 12v power outlet in centre console, driver and front passenger airbags and remote central locking.

Moving up to Expression adds 4x15W audio system, stylish body-coloured bumpers and door mirrors, electric/folding door mirrors, front fog lights, ISOFIX points for front passenger seat and front overhead and multi-position rear parcel shelves.
