La Manga Club announces UNICEF week

9th August 2010 Print

La Manga Club in Spain is to run a special family-focussed October half-term charity week in conjunction with UNICEF.

The flagship Spanish resort has teamed up with UNICEF to put on a host of unique events and subsidised activities for children during the school holidays (October 24-30), with proceeds in aid of UNICEF’s Schools for Africa project.

The Schools for Africa objective is to transform lives through education and to provide access to quality basic education for 8 million underprivileged children in Africa.

At La Manga Club, children between the ages of seven and 14 years will be able to participate in new events with the highlight being the inaugural Mini-Masters for Africa sports tournament series.

Mini-Masters for Africa will include competitions for golf (October 24), tennis and football (both October 30), with juniors competing both individually as well as forming teams representing different African nations.

Julio Delgado, CEO of La Manga Club said: “We are delighted to be working with UNICEF on this project and we are hopeful of making a significant contribution towards the Schools for Africa project.

“We are used to having a very busy resort during October half-term with lots of families visiting us. We hope that this initiative will provide an additional incentive and added value for the children during their stay with us.”

In addition to the Mini-Masters tournament, there will be a host of additional attractions including special family menus, charity film screenings, a UNICEF Open Day, end-of-tournament parties on October 24 and 30 and the popular Funlandia family programme will also be in operation, themed to UNICEF’s convention on the rights of a child.

As a further incentive, La Manga Club is also running a number of free night promotions and other offers at both the five-star hotel and serviced Las Lomas Village apartments over the October half-term period.
