Sherlock fans are at home on Baker Street
Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes is enjoying the benefits of the recent revival of the great detective.
Guy Ritchie’s film, a new theatre production and a new BBC series are just a few of the reincarnations Sherlock Holmes has enjoyed over the last year and fans are flocking in greater numbers than ever before to visit his stomping ground.
In recent months, Baker Street has been filled with admirers looking to tread in Sherlock’s famous footsteps.
The recent BBC series came to an end at the weekend (Sunday 8 August), but not before a whole new legion of fans had been captivated by the mysterious Holmes and his sidekick Watson.
“The recent popularity of Sherlock Holmes has been fantastic for businesses in the Baker Street area,” says Michelle Wells, General Manager of Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London.
“Since Guy Ritchie’s film, Sherlock Holmes has been more popular than ever before and a new generation has been inspired to visit the area. While Baker Street has always been a thriving community and tourist destination, in the last year, we’ve seen a substantial increase in visitors motivated by the film, theatre and television productions.”
Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes brings all the style and elegance of Sherlock’s 19th century right into the 21st. Situated on Baker Street, the four-star boutique hotel offers aspiring detectives the opportunity to stay in the heart of Holmes and Watson’s territory.
To celebrate the film release at the cinema, Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes offered a free themed cocktail to anyone with the surname Holmes or Watson. The hotel also ran a special package which included one of these speciality cocktails as well as tickets to the independent cinema, Everyman Baker Street. The excitement of the DVD release prompted an offer of 10% off bookings.
While staying at the hotel, fans can pay a visit to 221b Baker Street, now home to the Sherlock Holmes Museum and take in nearby Madame Tussauds, complete with a statue of Robert Downey Jr as the great detective.
Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London (parkplazasherlockholmes.com) is also located near the shopping meccas of Marylebone High Street and Oxford Street. The hotel’s award winning restaurant Sherlock’s Grill serves a delicious modern European menu.
