Chris Hoy emerges as king of the track again

Sir Chris Hoy added another victory to his tally yesterday at a Jaguar Hot Laps event at Silverstone. A selection of Britain’s finest sports men and women took to the track in Jaguar XKRs. The four-time Olympic gold medalist clocked the best time, set in torrential rain, with boxer James DeGale coming home second and Dame Kelly Holmes securing third position.

Competition was fierce with the elements adding a further challenge. Rain fell during the session causing Dame Kelly Holmes to take a spin into the gravel.

All contestants were tasked with matching the time set by former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle. The driving ace commended his fellow athletes on their handling skills in mixed weather conditions.

It has been an amazing experience and I would like to thank Jaguar and everybody at the Academy of Sport. It was a surprise to win and I am over the moon. I'm proud to be an ambassador for the Academy of Sport and it was great to meet some of the other ambassadors, members and patrons today. It's such an exciting initiative and it's fantastic to be involved right from the start."
