Last week saw the exciting conclusion of Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel’s Win a Wedding Competition which includes a fantastic 7 night honeymoon cruise. Three brides-to-be were challenged to travel the furthest distance in eight hours, returning to the Macdonald New Blossoms Hotel before a 5pm deadline.

With only 8 minutes to spare, Emma Burton from Ellesmere Port was crowned Champion Bride after sprinting to the finish line. The competition was launched in conjunction with Dee 106.3 in July, with the 3 finalists being voted by the station’s listeners for having the most compelling stories.

Emma and her fellow finalists, Helen Smith and Laura Morris were each dropped off at a mystery location on Friday 13 August. Provided with a mobile phone to track their progress, the girls dressed in full bridal attire began the challenge to travel the furthest distance before the 5pm deadline. Accompanied by a chaperone and using no money, they had to beg, borrow and even steal their way out of Chester!

All three finalists put in sterling efforts with Helen managing to travel all the way to Scotland, only to be eliminated when she arrived 10 minutes after the cut off time! Laura Morris who was the first to cross the finish line was a little less fortunate than her competitor brides, travelling the least miles to Wigan. But it was Emma who emerged triumphant having travelled 218 miles to Morden Tube Station in South London.

A delighted Emma said: “I’m completely stunned and so excited we won! Huge thanks to local business men, Mike from City Metals and Mark from Golden Dragon Tattoo Studio who paid for my return journey to Morden Tube Station. It’s like a dream come true and I can’t wait to start planning my wedding at Macdonald Craxton Wood”.

Cassandra Forshaw, Regional Sales Manager at Macdonald Craxton Wood added: “The final day of the competition was nail biting and Emma’s finish was certainly emotional with all her family waiting to greet and congratulate her on her amazing effort. We look forward to welcoming Emma and her family back to the hotel on her wedding day.”

Emma can now look forward to a picturesque wedding set within the 27 acres of carefully tended lawns, gardens and richly wooded grounds at Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel. Her prize will include a delicious wedding breakfast for up to 50 guests and an evening buffet for up to 100 guests as well as accommodation for the immediate wedding party.

Not only will Emma have her dream wedding but also a 7 night honeymoon cruise to either the Caribbean, Europe, the African Coast or Alaska, courtesy of Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel.
