In a nationwide poll to celebrate the best of scenic Britain, Lake Buttermere has been voted Britain’s most beautiful view. One in five (18 per cent) Brits believe the small but perfectly formed Lake Buttermere in Cumbria is our nation’s top view, closely followed by neighbouring Lake Derwentwater which received eleven per cent of the vote.

Chevrolet, the car maker synonymous with value for money, conducted research during a time when more people are taking driving holidays in UK and the ‘staycation’ trend continues.

To celebrate Britain’s top views the car company has created a four metre wide gilt frame which turns the natural environment into “scenic art” and enables families to enjoy the best of British views from the comfort of the car. Families are able to drive into parking spaces located in front of the top views in the UK and see the most beautiful views that the British Isles has to offer through the frame which captures the best part of the landscape. The frame, which was recently installed at top view Lake Buttermere, proved an instant hit with tourist and residents alike and the car company are looking to roll out these specially created frames at the top views across the country to enable families to experience the beauty of the British countryside without becoming subject to the temperamental nature of the British weather.

The nation’s top ten views are:

1.  Lake Buttermere, Cumbria (18 per cent)
A picture perfect lake surrounded by rolling mountains and fertile dairy pastures

2.  Derwentwater, Cumbria (11 per cent)
Cumbria’s third largest lake which is also home to four islands

3.  Seven Sisters, Sussex (9 per cent)
A series of white cliffs in East Sussex facing out into the English Channel

4.  St Ives, Cornwall (7 per cent)
Formerly a busy fishing port in the Middle Ages, now a busy Cornish town

5.  Stonehenge, Wiltshire (6 per cent)
A world heritage site whose large monolithic stones are instantly recognisable

6.  Holkham Beach, Norfolk (6 per cent)
Located within a nature reserve the large beach is covered in golden sand

7.  Swaledale, Yorkshire (6 per cent)
One of the most remote dales which hosts sparkling streams and lush meadows

8.  Wastwater, Cumbria (5 per cent)
England’s deepest lake, surrounded by England’s highest mountains

9.  Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland (5 per cent)
The castle stands 180 foot above the North Sea and unspoilt beaches

10. Loch Coruisk, Isle of Skye, Scotland (4 per cent)
The Loch’s dramatic landscape can only be reached by boat or a long hike

Les Turton from Chevrolet, comments: “We don’t need to fork out on flights to find scenic locations. It is really great that more and more people are appreciating and acknowledging everything that our own country has to offer us. There is a wealth of beauty on offer to everyone within the UK and we only need to hit the road to find it.”
