Councillor Robin Kempe welcomes Tony and Diana Collins to the area

Taylor Wimpey’s The Grange development has hosted a visit by the Mayor to welcome residents to their new homes in Hailsham.

One of the first couples to move into Taylor Wimpey’s development of brand new houses for sale in Hailsham received a warm welcome by the Mayor of the East Sussex town.

Tony and Diana Collins were honoured by the visit of the Mayor, Cllr Robin Kempe, and Chairman of the Hellingly Parish Council, David White, who paid a visit to their new Taylor Wimpey home at The Grange to help forge a bond between the established and new communities of homes in Hailsham.

Cllr Kempe, who also presented the retired couple with an engraved vase during his visit to the new properties in Hailsham, says: “It was a pleasure to meet Tony and Diana and also quite exciting to visit The Grange, where so many future inhabitants of our great town will be living.

“I want to make sure that each and every new household at The Grange know they are very much part of a thriving and friendly community.

“Tony and Diana are actually originally from the area, so it’s great to know that these new homes in Hailsham appeal to locals, as well as people from further afield.

"The Grange has been in the planning stages for a while – but now the first of these new houses in Hailsham are complete, everyone can see that everything's been worth waiting for. I am sure that all new and future residents of The Grange will enjoy living there.”

The Collins have returned to a property in Hailsham after 12 years in Milton Keynes, to be nearer to their two granddaughters and grandson.

Looking to move from a four-bedroom house, complete with office, conservatory and its very own canal boat mooring at the bottom of the garden, they thought they may have had trouble finding their perfect home in Hailsham.

And although they have had to forgo the boat mooring, the superb L-shaped four-bedroom ‘Buttercup’ detached house at The Grange ticked all the boxes for the Collins.

“When it came down to it, we didn’t really downsize as we still have four bedrooms,” admitted Tony.

“As soon as we saw the ‘Buttercup’, we knew it was the one for us, and we’re in the perfect location – back home and near to our family.”

Tony (73), together with his two brothers and family, owned a garage in Herstmonceux for 50 years, building it up from a petrol station to a repair shop and then a car dealership. Nowadays known as Collins Honda, the business still thrives in the town today, and remains, as the name suggests, in the family.

After retiring to Milton Keynes, Tony and Diana (72) enjoyed taking their boat out around Milton Keynes and the UK canal network.

Tony adds: “We still have the boat moored in a marina there, but although I miss living on the banks of the waterway, it’s such a lovely feeling to be back home again. We want to be here and we already love life in our new home at The Grange.”

The ‘Buttercup’ is a delightful Hailsham property design, currently available from only £299,995 at The Grange and characterised by an impressive open-plan kitchen/breakfast room with French doors opening out to the private rear garden. A separate dining room flooded with natural light from the attractive bay window, spacious lounge and handy guest cloakroom complete the ground-floor accommodation.

Upstairs, the first-floor landing leads to the master bedroom with en-suite shower room, three good-sized bedrooms and a main bathroom, while outside there is a garage and parking space.

As an alternative to the ‘Buttercup’, the four-bedroom ‘Snowdrop’ is priced from just £279,995, while the three-bedroom ‘Orchid’ is only £199,995.

Selected homes at The Grange are available with Taylor Wimpey’s easymover scheme, which lets customers sit back and relax while the housebuilder finds a buyer for their existing property – usually in around six weeks and sometimes in as little as a fortnight. Further details are available from the Sales Executive.

Situated within 76 acres of farmland, and just over a mile from Hailsham’s historic town centre, homes at The Grange are ideal for buyers looking for properties for sale in Hailsham, enjoying an idyllic semi-rural location bordered to the west by the beautiful Sussex countryside.

For walkers and ramblers there is a wealth of woodland and riverside walks to explore, while safe cycling is permitted along the Cuckoo Trail, the former route of the dismantled branch railway line.

Commuters will appreciate that the A22 provides quick links to Eastbourne and the M25, while Polegate Station is only three miles away, offering regular services to London Victoria, Ashford International, Brighton and Eastbourne.
