Work begins on Pan Meadows

Barratt has started work on its Pan Meadows development on the outskirts of Newport and marked the breaking of the ground by welcoming all those involved to take part.

Barratt staff, Isle of Wight Council members, and some of the team from Spectrum Housing all attended the site where 846 new homes will be built.

Shovels and a digger took the lead to break the ground at the site where the Barratt construction team is now full time with work beginning on road construction and beginning the houses.

Barratt managing director Ian Wallace said: “We are thrilled to get work underway on Pan Meadows. It is a landmark development for us and we are all excited to see it take shape.”

The development, situated between Staplers Road and St Georges Way, will also include a new country park, including a ranger station, visitor centre, new recreation and play areas teamed with new local recycling centres.

Each home at Pan Meadows will be built to high green standards and level 4 in the Code for Sustainable Housing. Homes will be powered by a specially created biomass plant which will supply energy from burnt woodchip, sourced primarily from the Island.
