Crest Nicholson confirms Hardwicke investment

14th September 2010 Print

Crest Nicholson has reaffirmed its investment in Hardwicke in Gloucester by contributing £500,000 as part of a planning permission agreement to the Highways Agency towards the remodelling of Junction 12 of the M5.

The improvements to the junction, funded by the Highways Agency, Crest Nicholson and other contributors, commenced on Monday (6th September) and will bring much needed congestion relief and safety benefits to existing and future residents in the wider area.

The works are to be completed at night to minimise disruption to peak time commuters. In part, the improvements will be carried out in preparation for Crest Nicholson’s eagerly awaited Hunts Grove development in Hardwicke, ensuring the traffic from the development has little or no impact on the junction. The development is set to include 1,750 traditional family homes and a range of local amenities and is expected to take 10-15 years to complete.

John Terry, head of Crest Nicholson Strategic Land, said: “We’re delighted to be part of the redevelopment of the local infrastructure around Junction 12 of the M5; it’s a crucial link between the motorway and Gloucester City Centre, so it will certainly improve journeys for commuters and local residents, as well as enticing future homebuyers and businesses into the area.”

John Seddon, Development Co-ordination and Transport Planning Manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “The County Council is pleased that the impact of new development in Gloucester upon the Junction 12 has been recognised, and welcomes the contributions from Crest Nicholson and others that have helped the Highways Agency bring the scheme forward. We also look forward to working with Crest on the future implementation of further transport works on the local network as the development proceeds over the next few years.”

Crest Nicholson is due to launch the first phase of the Hunts Grove development, which will be named Whitstone Hundred, at the end of the year. The first phase will comprise 200 properties, including two, three and four bedrooms homes.
