Autumn events for couples in the beautiful south

Autumn is well and truly upon us - but that doesn’t mean you can’t get out and enjoy South East England! Across the region the great variety of activities, events and festivals taking place means there’s always something to get excited about.
Here are just some examples of great events taking place in the South East before the end of the year:
OCTOBER
14th - 23rd October: Guildford Book Festival (Surrey). The annual Guildford Book Festival has a varied programme of events featuring many of Britain’s finest writers and personalities, including Ron Moody, Kevin McCloud and Rachel Johnson - visitsurrey.com
15th – 30th October: The Rather Unusual Gift Fair (Portsmouth). NOVEMBER
6th November- 15th December: Ghost walks at The Historic Dockyard Chatham (Medway). New for this year The Historic Dockyard is relaying stories about the Smithery, where several men have died but their presence is still felt…. thedockyard.co.uk
12th – 14th November: Windsor Contemporary Arts Fair (Royal Windsor Racecourse). Considered one of the most prestigious art events in the Thames Valley, there will be over 100 exhibitors including original paintings, photography, drawings, limited edition prints, sculpture and glasswork - visitthames.co.uk
DECEMBER
4th - 5th December: Dickensian Christmas (Medway). Victorian festivities come to the streets of Rochester in this annual event. Dickensian characters parade through the town, while there are plenty of sites where visitors can explore the literary journey of the famous novelist’s life - visitmedway.org
5th December: Ryde Lantern Parade (Isle of Wight). The Ryde Lantern Parade sees thousands of lights, lanterns, music and costumes, all led by the Carnival Queen and drawn to a close with a magnificent firework display. 21st December: Burning the Clocks (Brighton). This annual event, for which the people of Brighton and Hove gather, involves making paper and willow lanterns, which are then paraded through the city and burnt on the beach - bringing the year to an end in a blaze of glory! visitbrighton.com
26th December: A Sussex Christmas at Weald & Downland (Chichester). Work off those Christmas puds and go back in time exploring the traditional Christmas decorations and crackling fires of Downland. There will be plenty of festival fare, music and stories from Victorian times - visitchichester.org
