The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust at the Heritage Motor Centre has produced the heritage certificate for the world’s most famous car - the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Thunderball’.

The world famous car was actually sold yesterday for the first time in history at RM Auctions Automobiles of London for £2.6 million.

Two cars of this particular model were used in the film, the one that was sold and a second car that was actually the Aston Martin DB5 prototype. The prototype car was stolen in 1998 and there has been no trace of it since. The 1964 DB5 is now the only surviving James Bond Aston Martin DB5, hence the high price tag.

The BMIHT produces and holds the build records for a wide range of classic cars including the DB5. The heritage certificate for the car was produced in January 2010 and is a certified copy of the car’s factory build record. It clearly records the car as being used as the road vehicle in the film ‘Goldfinger’.

Richard Bacchus, Certificate Officer for the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust stated “We are delighted to have produced the heritage certificate for the 1964 Aston Martin DB5. Our certificates play an important role in verifying a car, with perhaps no greater example being one sold for £2.6 million”.
