Name that ale

Pub group Ember Inns is offering guests the chance to enter an exciting competition to name a unique, one-off ale that can never be replicated again.

The real ale is being sold under the working title of ‘Project Green’, and is created from ‘green hops’, a fresh new take on the usual ale-making process. Traditionally, beer hops in the UK are picked in late August and early September and then dried for use throughout the year. Green hops, however, are processed in just 24 hours – thus making sure all the fresh oils in the hops make it into the final brew.

This process is a UK first for pub groups, as real ale enthusiasts Ember Inns are the first to individually pick the hops off the vine to cultivate their very own green hopping ale. Guests to Ember Inns’ pubs are now challenged to invent a name for the drink, to be in with a chance to win an exclusive prize.

Guests can log onto the Ember Inns Facebook page, and click on the ‘Project Green’ tab to put forward their suggested names, which will be available throughout November. Those that participate will not only be in with the chance to name the unique ale, but will also win a money-can’t-buy prize, consisting of a day for four at a brewery, learning about the brewing process and picking their own hops, which will be used to harvest Ember’s next green hopping ale. And that’s not mentioning an all-expense paid meal with drinks at their local Ember Inn!

Gareth Smith, brand manager at Ember Inns, comments: “At Ember we’re always keen to show our support for the British cask ale industry, and this competition is an ideal opportunity for our guests to have a hand in a completely new, one-of-a-kind ale!

“‘Project Green’ is the perfect way for our guests to get their creative juices flowing and be a part of something never done before in the industry. We simply want them to taste the ale and then use the flavour as their inspiration to come up with a name! The winning suggestion will be used on the pump clip of our next green ale, during our 2011 Ale Festival.

“I’d like to encourage everyone to get their thinking caps on and log onto our facebook page to be in with a chance to win this one-off prize – and be a groundbreaking part of Ember Inns, and Cask Ale, history!”

The NovEmber Ale Festival will see up to 12 different ales, including one of the UK’s first green hopping ale, served at Ember Inns nationwide. To enter into the ‘Project Green’ competition go to: facebook.com/emberinns
