Basildon regeneration plans unveiled at 'The Big Switch On'
Basildon residents attending ‘The Big Switch On’ of this year’s Christmas lights on Thursday 18th November, will also have the opportunity to view the very latest plans for the £1billion regeneration of Basildon town centre.
Barratt Eastern Counties, one of the town’s regeneration partners and sponsor of this year’s Christmas illuminations, is holding an exhibition in St Martin’s Square outlining the most up-to-date details on the town’s transformation.
Visitors will get the first glimpse of the stylish homes on offer at the Company’s new Axis development, which launches in January 2011 and marks the next major step in the town’s renaissance. A festive event, there will be mulled wine and chestnuts to enjoy, while balloons will be available for children.
Rebecca Littler, Sales Director of Barratt Eastern Counties, commented: “Barratt is committed to the regeneration of Basildon and we are delighted to be sponsoring this year’s Christmas lights. We hope residents will come down and see how their town is evolving, and enjoy some lovely festive treats at the same time.”
Cllr Tony Ball, Leader of Basildon Borough Council, says: “As we turn on the Christmas lights, we are reminded of what a fantastic place Basildon is at this time of year, and what a strong sense of community that we have. These are exciting times for Basildon and I would urge local residents to come and visit the Barratt Homes stall and see how their town is set for an even brighter future.”
This year’s ‘The Big Switch On’ will take place at 6pm on Thursday 18th November in St Martin’s Square. Special guests are Aled Jones, most famous for his recording of ‘The Snowman’ and he will be joined by local singling sensation Josh Dubovie.
