Redrow to build new homes in Bilston

A former industrial site in Bilston is undergoing a transformation to make way for new homes.
The land in Dudley Street was once home to an iron and steel works and is now being developed by Redrow Homes (Midlands) to provide a choice of properties to meet the needs of a range of buyers and their budgets.
Redrow has detailed consent to build 149 homes from its critically acclaimed New Heritage Collection on the 13.8 acre site.
Matthew Pratt, managing director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), commented: “Homebuyers in the Black Country have already given our New Heritage Collection their seal of approval, snapping up 11 homes at Heritage Gardens in Tipton in the first two months. We’re confident these traditional looking, high specification homes will be equally as popular in Bilston, where we’ll be catering for first time buyers, growing families, downsizers and everything in between.”
Designed in response to customer feedback, the New Heritage Collection is a premium housing product combining the best of old and new. Behind traditional exteriors, inspired by the architecture of the Arts and Crafts movement, the properties hide bright modern interiors styled with 21st century living in mind.
Arts and Crafts inspired features will be seen to varying degrees on the new homes in Bilston, including dropped eaves, projecting plinths, bays and other distinctive window styles, plus timber or tiled canopies over doors and windows.
Inside they will boast family friendly features with an emphasis on convivial open plan living spaces. Contemporary kitchens will benefit from the convenience of integrated top brand name appliances and floor to ceiling units that offer plenty of storage; while statement-making bathrooms will enjoy quality fixtures and fittings.
“The combination of traditional exteriors and stylish interiors means customers can enjoy the charm and character of an older property but without any of the draw backs,” Matthew commented.
“Because new-build homes tend to be more energy efficient than their older second hand counterparts, homeowners could save money on their utility bills. Plus they won’t be inheriting someone else’s decor or DIY disasters, but will enjoy the peace of mind of a 10-year ‘Buildmark’ warranty.”
The development, known as Chestnut Walk, will offer a choice of two-bedroom apartments and family homes with up to four bedrooms.
The first properties will be released for sale in early 2011, when show homes are due to open.
In addition to the new homes, Redrow will make a contribution to public art on the development and provide public open space for residents to enjoy.
The Birmingham Canal runs through the development and Redrow has also agreed to help British Waterways upgrade the towpath. The developer will also contribute to road improvements in the area.
