First-time buyer Brook Townsend makes the most of Taylor Wimpey’s Deposit Match scheme to secure his place at the leading housebuilder’s Woodlands development of apartments in Hemel Hempstead.

When graphic designer Brook Townsend reached an age when house-sharing with friends was no longer for him, he wasn’t sure he would have enough deposit to secure his own property in Hemel Hempstead.

Keen on living in the attractive Boxmoor area of the town, the 30-year-old decided to look at Taylor Wimpey’s Woodlands development of flats for sale in Hemel Hempstead – and was immediately taken by the superb location and design of the homes available at the development.

“The setting for Woodlands is fantastic,” he says. “It’s not only close to the town centre and railway station, it’s also an area where I spend most of my time for its pubs, the cricket club, and because many of my friends live in the area.

“I was also impressed by the prices of Taylor Wimpey’s apartments, and the fact they could offer me their Deposit Match incentive. This meant that I could put down 20% of the purchase price straight away, even though I only had 10% saved.”

Deposit Match is just one of the incentives available to purchasers at the Woodlands development of flats in Hemel Hempstead, and sees Taylor Wimpey put down up to 10% of the purchase price, to match the customer’s deposit, in the form of an interest-free 10-year loan.

The loan enables qualifying customers to access a wider range of lower-rate mortgages, and is repayable in up to three instalments over the 10-year period.

Brook chose a two-bedroom upper-ground-floor apartment featuring an en-suite master bedroom with balcony, a second bedroom, a main bathroom, a kitchen and a separate living/dining room also boasting a balcony to make the most of the attractive views from his new home.

Because he chose his home early, before building work was completed, he was also able to choose the units and worktops for his kitchen, selecting a sleek Boston White design, as well as the tiles to his kitchen and bathrooms.

“I’ve never lived in a new build home before, but it’s really appealing,” adds Brook, who works for the J2 creative design agency in Watford. “Living in a house-share with friends is good fun, but once we’d reached our thirties we decided the time was right to take the next step.

“My apartment is a great plot in a woodland area and there’s plenty of open space in the grounds of the building. I can see myself living here very comfortably during my thirties!”

A further benefit to owning a home in Boxmoor is that, according to Brook, the homes will hold their value well, because they enjoy such a sought-after location in the London commuter belt, and by purchasing his home off-plan he was able to secure his property for a good-value price.

A choice of two-bedroom apartments is available to reserve now at Woodlands, starting from just £173,250. Many homes feature an en-suite to the master bedroom in addition to a main bathroom, and selected plots have balconies to the living areas or master bedroom.

All have an allocated parking space and are completed to a high standard specification, including central heating, double glazing and fitted kitchen with integrated oven, hob and cooker hood.

Using Deposit Match, homebuyers with a deposit of £17,325, for example, can see their down payment doubled by Taylor Wimpey up to £34,650.

The incentive is available on selected plots and terms and conditions are available from the Sales Executive at the development.

Woodlands, created by Taylor Wimpey in close partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency, comprises a collection of elegant three and four-storey apartment buildings nestling in leafy, landscaped grounds within Boxmoor Village, and blending traditional architecture with the very best of modern home design.

Hemel Hempstead town centre is within walking distance of the development, and offers a range of attractions, including medieval churches and historic streetscapes alongside the Marlowes shopping centre, plus numerous independent boutiques, bars, restaurants and leisure activities.

The town’s railway station is only around a mile from home, providing regular services to London Euston in about half an hour, while commuters will also appreciate that the A41, M1 and M25 are within easy reach.

The Woodlands showhome and Sales Centre are located off Woodland Avenue, Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, and open Thursday to Sunday from 10am to 5.30pm and Mondays from 10am to 2pm.
