Halfords rushes in salt supplies

Car accessory retailer Halfords is rushing packs of salt into stores in Scotland and the North of England to help keep motorists on the move.
Drivers have found themselves unable to get out of driveways and garages as plummeting temperatures and sudden falls of snow have created chaos around the country.
Halfords said it was trialling sales in 55 stores in Scotland and the North East of England.
The marine de-icing salt is 99% pure. This means it melts snow and ice more quickly than brown rock salt, and contains fewer impurities, ensuring there is no gritty mess to clean up when the ice thaws.
Halfords Winter Motoring Expert, Mark Dolphin, said: “Motorists need to be prepared for sudden changes of weather and our new de-icing salt is a safe, convenient and cost effective way to keep paths and driveways clear.
“Don’t wait until the worst of the weather hits, stock up on some salt now and store it safely in the house or garage so it’s ready for when you need it.”
The 10 kg bags of Pure White Marine De-Icing Salt will be available in stores from December 1st priced at £6.99. If the trial is successful, the salt will be rolled out to more branches around the UK.
Scotland and the East Coast of England have already been hit by the first snow of the season and the country is set to face the worst of the new Arctic blast sweeping the country with warnings there could be snow across the UK.
Temperatures as low as minus 20C have been predicted.
