Many employers are forcing cost cutting measures on their staff this Christmas by making them pay for their office party. Perhaps a sign of the challenging times, but of those going to an office Christmas party this year, more than a third (38%) will have to contribute towards costs and, of those, 10% are not happy about having to do so.

The research*, conducted by Covent Garden’s premier cocktail bar, Dirty Martini, aims to ‘get under the skin of the office party’ this December. It reveals that, while the office Christmas party is as popular as ever with 79% joining in the fun, in the current climate more than half (57%) would prefer to receive an annual bonus instead.

The research also revealed that some of the main aims when it comes to an office party is to:

• Dress up (22%)
• See their boss embarrass themselves (6%)
• Flirt with a colleague (4%)

“We have hosted a lot of Christmas parties and it’s safe to say that people always enjoy themselves. They don’t need to be pricey as companies can take advantage of discounts and happy hour prices, as well as special party packages, and in our experience the perfect party just comes down to the right people in the right place. From the barmen’s skills entertaining the crowds to the office gossip tearing up the bar, Christmas parties are a great way to let loose and create a more comfortable vibe with your colleagues”, says head mixologist at, Dirty Martini (Matt Greenwood)

The research also revealed the British public’s preference for cocktails, and those who make them. For 78% of people cocktails are the office Christmas party drink of choice, perhaps the reason why many consider the bar man or women the most appealing person in the room. Sixteen per cent are impressed with their skills, 13% admire his knowledge however 12% just want to get served first!

This festive season Dirty Martini’s talented mixologists have created 10 new seasonal cocktails for party-goers to choose from. Ranging from the fruity Ginger Peach Fizz to the creamy Black Forest Martini all are available until New Years Day.
