Panto-goers in Nottingham are being encouraged to help at risk children by showing their support for the NSPCC’s Child’s Voice Appeal in the East Midlands.

Volunteers from across the city are joining forces to collect donations at 62 performances of Mother Goose at Nottingham Playhouse over the festive season, in an attempt to help the appeal reach its £3.3 million fundraising target in the region.

Led by business leaders Chris Brown and Andrew Springhall, the East Midlands Child’s Voice Appeal is raising money for the expansion of the region’s ChildLine base in Nottingham, which provides a vital resource for children in danger or distress.

Amongst the volunteers collecting at Nottingham Playhouse will be solicitors from local law firms Rothera Dowson, Browne Jacobson and Eversheds, as well as representatives from the Women in Construction forum and a number of teachers from across the county.

“Last year the ChildLine service in Nottingham counseled over 7,000 children in the region,” commented Jo Giles, spokesperson for the East Midlands Child’s Voice Appeal fundraising committee. “However, funds are desperately needed to expand the facility and make sure that every call is answered.

“Hundreds of families will be attending Mother Goose at Nottingham Playhouse over the festive period and we hope that they’re able to support us by donating whatever they can.”
