Montserrat holds 2nd Volcano Half Marathon

Champion runner, Pamenos Ballantyne of St. Vincent made easy pickings of the half marathon race coming in at 1 hour 23 minutes and 43 seconds.
While other runners found the route challenging, Ballantyne said living and training on St. Vincent, which has a similar terrain, made the race an easy one to win.
British participants included Dr. Edward Quinn, who returned to the island to complete the half marathon and beat his personal best from last year. Amateur runner, Dale Bentley also took part finishing in 12th place in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 47 seconds.
Montserrat's Half Marathon offers a unique course and runners tackle strenuous, rugged terrain and get close to the active Soufriere Hills Volcano in the south of the island.
"The event was a resounding success and we wish to thank all the participants, particularly those from overseas. Planning for next year's event has already started and we are inviting persons from all over the globe to come over to the Other Emerald Isle for a truly remarkable running experience," commented Ishwar Persad, marketing manager at the Montserrat Tourist Board and president of the Montserrat Running Club.
