Coyote discourages speeding Santas this Christmas
With a big freeze once again being forecast for the festive period Coyote, the newly launched speed camera alert system, is urging motorists to be speed aware this Christmas.
The company is offering advice for drivers, urging them to take caution when driving during the holiday season. With the average UK family driving up to 207 extra miles next week according to a recent survey by Saab, some on their longest journey of the year, Coyote is urging travellers to watch their speed and plan their journeys well in advance in a bid to stay safe.
Coyote’s top tips:
During the festive period motorists are often driving on unfamiliar roads – It is important for drivers to plan their journeys, using route planning websites. Coyote’s speed camera alert system can give drivers the peace of mind they are adhering to speed limits on roads they are not familiar with. Coyote also includes speed limits in SPECS-monitored average speed camera zones, typically found in roadworks
Many drivers will be making much longer journeys than usual this month –add young excited children into the mix and travelling over Christmas can add to driver stress levels, not normally experienced during the year. Make time to stop and plan activities to keep the children occupied and factor any potential weather warnings into an overall journey plan.
Predicted weather conditions may well make some roads treacherous – Speed limits are designed for good road conditions, when the weather is treacherous and roads are icy, Coyote is advising drivers to allow half as much time again for their typical Christmas journey.
Remember to adjust tyre pressures – Cars often get loaded up with people, pressies and luggage at this time of the year so it’s important that a vehicle’s tyre pressures are checked prior to travel and tyres inflated to the car maker’s recommended levels. Look in the car handbook or in the driver footwell for recommended pressures for a full load of people and luggage.
The Coyote speed camera alert system automatically displays speed limits on every road type on every journey as a constant reminder of how fast drivers should be travelling. In addition it forewarns drivers when they are approaching a speed camera, including average speed cameras and the speed they should be adhering to.
Andrew Smith, managing director of Cobra UK which distributes the Coyote speed camera alert system believes speed cameras and alert systems combine to educate drivers about speed limits, which will ultimately reduce accident rates.
“Christmas is a tricky time on the roads, often motorists are battling with traffic and adverse weather conditions, and with a car loaded with family and presents it can be a stressful time but it is essential to remain legal behind the wheel! We want people to be aware that speed limits are there for a reason and that is to keep motorists safe. In addition, it can be difficult for motorists driving on unfamiliar roads where the speed limit is not necessarily clear, this is where a Coyote can really help reduce stress levels.”
