swiftcover.com backs ABI motor research

20th January 2011 Print

Robin Reames, claims director at swiftcover.com commented on the Association of British Insurers (ABI) research into motorists providing incorrect information when applying for car insurance, and the knock-on effect it has on premiums.

Reames said: "As an insurer, swiftcover.com wants to quote honest drivers the cheapest possible price for their motor insurance. However, if some applicants aren't truthful about their driving history when applying for car insurance, we need to factor this into each and every quote, which ultimately drives premium prices higher as the risk is greater.

"Insurers need access to vital DVLA information, as part of a strict data protection agreement, to help disclose any discrepancies and therefore quote more accurately for that specific individual, whether the person has motor convictions or not. As part of providing the Transport Select Committee with our thoughts on how to bring motor premiums down, we are fully behind this idea and would welcome any moves by the industry or Government to implement this and therefore help to bring premiums down for honest UK drivers."
