Britain's nerdy know-how revealed
Brits are tech-obsessed geeks that take pride in their nerdy know-how. This is according to a recent study of over 2,000 UK adults, which revealed Brits spend more time thinking about and enjoying technology than the ‘finer’ things in life.
One in ten Brits think about the latest gadgets, funny posts on social networks and the coolest apps more than they think about sex, work or money. In fact 20% of single Brits think more about tech than they think of their favourite celebrity heart-throb.
The nerdy behaviour doesn’t end there. Over a third of those polled voted being tech savvy the most valuable life skill - above fundamentals such as cooking, DIY and speaking a foreign language- while two-thirds confess they take pride in their technological ability, suggesting Brits are a lot geekier than you would expect.
Although we may have a healthy tech obsession, the YouGov poll for PC Tools revealed complicated terminology is a major barrier in achieving full geek potential. Over 50% of Brits believe technology jargon should be simplified.
Richard Clooke, spokesperson from PC Tools comments: “It is fantastic to see that adopting a digital lifestyle has enabled more Brits to become passionate about technology. However, when embracing technology, simplicity is key. Whilst many take pride in their ability, you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy and get the most out of technology.”
For those who like to keep things simple there are a number of easy to use, effective and in some cases free tools to help improve your technology know-how.
“Online malware glossaries are great if you need to translate confusing internet security jargon into simple English. Similarly if you get stuck, there are superb how-to guides available to navigate you through tricky tech problems” says Clooke.
