Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles has had a flying start to 2011 by registering a record breaking retail market share of 18.85%, driven by strong retail sales up 57% on last January.

The figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders also showed total Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles sales were up 44% with Combo topping the total and fleet light van segments and the Luton-built Vivaro leading the retail medium van segment.

On passenger cars, another British-built success was the Astra Sports Tourer topping its segment at total, fleet and retail levels, a feat also matched by the recently-launched Meriva.

Richard Collier, Vauxhall’s National Commercial Vehicle Sales Manager, said:  “We are delighted that Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles achieved the best retail share on record, proving that even in a challenging market there is always demand for good quality vans, with low running costs and excellent manufacturer support.  Retail van sales were boosted by the offer of four years 0% APR finance, four years’ free servicing, a four year warranty and four years AA cover.”

January’s bumper sales news comes hot on the heels of Vauxhall announcing that it will be the first manufacturer to offer an ‘eco’ model across their whole van range with the launch of ecoFLEX Commercial Vehicles.
