HSBC launches MSCI Canada ETF in Europe
HSBC has launched the HSBC MSCI Canada ETF which carries a highly competitive Total Expense Ratio (TER) of just 0.35%.
The HSBC MSCI Canada ETF aims to replicate the performance of the MSCI Canada Index, which is designed to offer exposure to the leading companies listed on the index, which houses some 100 constituents and has a market cap of more than US$1.3 trillion.
Mark Rodino, HSBC Head of ETF Sales in Europe, said: "This launch completes our line-up of core ETFs tracking the major developed markets. Sometimes overlooked by international investors, we think that Canada, with the relatively uncommon combination of being rich in natural resources coupled with having a stable political system has attractive features for growth investors.
"We believe that the world is in the early stages of a commodity super-cycle driven by the need for massive infrastructure spending and rising standards of living within global emerging markets. Canada, with its significant abundance of natural resources should be well placed to benefit from these positive macro trends. The HSBC MSCI Canada ETF aims to offer investors high quality and good value access to this potentially high growth story."
The HSBC MSCI Canada ETF is listed on the London Stock Exchange in sterling and US dollar trading currencies (Bloomberg ticker: HCAN LN for sterling / HCAD LN for US dollar). Further registrations and cross-listings in Europe are planned.
The HSBC MSCI Canada ETF will use ‘physical replication' in tracking its index, which has been the case with all HSBC ETFs launched to date. The fund will aim to invest in securities in generally the same proportions as in the index.
The HSBC MSCI Canada ETF is the 17th ETF launch from HSBC in Europe. The first, linked to the FTSE® 100 was introduced in August 2009. Since then, HSBC has added ETFs linked to a number of indices including, the EURO STOXX® 50, MSCI Japan, FTSE® 250, S&P® 500, MSCI Europe, MSCI USA, MSCI Brazil, MSCI Pacific ex Japan, MSCI EM Far East, MSCI Turkey, MSCI World, S&P BRIC 40® , MSCI China and MSCI South Africa.
Globally, HSBC has USD 7.5 billion in ETF assets under management and is a leading ETF product provider in Asia ex Japan with a 13% market share.
As with all investments, the value and any income from ETFs can go down as well as up, and investors may not get back the amount invested.
HSBC Global Banking and Markets is the Authorised Participant for all HSBC ETFs.
Copies of the HSBC MSCI Canada ETF Supplement will shortly be available for inspection at the Document Viewing Facility of the UK Listing Authority and will also be available on the Company's website at etfs.hsbc.com, where the Simplified Prospectus will also be available.
