Visitors find the first 2011 Goodwood Breakfast Club less taxing
The first of this year’s seven Goodwood Breakfast Club meetings got off to a classic start on Sunday 6 March when an impressive selection of (mostly pre-1973) tax-exempt vehicles gathered at the legendary Goodwood Motor Circuit for the themed ‘Tax-free Sunday’ meeting.
Thanks to the fine crisp spring day, the 2011 Breakfast Club season opener tempted many classic car and motorcycle enthusiasts out of their long winter hibernation, and also attracted a number of modern tax-exempt low emission cars as well, including an electric Tesla Sport Roadster and Toyota iQ.
The owners and enthusiasts of the huge variety of tax-exempt vehicles took to the picturesque West Sussex roads for an enjoyable Sunday morning drive, before displaying their machines at the celebrated Goodwood circuit; home to many famous races when a lot of the classic cars on display were brand new! Indeed, the only taxing issue of the day was choosing what to have for breakfast from the tempting selection of Goodwood’s own organic fayre.
Amongst the various cherished MGs, Austin-Healeys and Porsches, some unusual Goodwood pit lane highlights including a rare Australian-built Vauxhall Wyvern ‘Ute’ pick-up, a Willys Whippet, Ferrari 250 Lusso, Subaru 360, Renault 8 Gordini, an American Armed Forces mobile crane and two Marauder Rovers, which travelled specifically for the Breakfast Club all the way from Wales.
New for 2011 were Parade Laps of the Goodwood circuit, which will now be run at future nominated Breakfast Club meetings too. Breakfast Club visitors can now drive in the tyre tracks of some of motor racing’s greatest heroes, taking in two laps of the Goodwood Motor Circuit for a nominal charge. This memorable opportunity is open to ALL visitors with their vehicles there on the day, and not just those that apply to a particular month’s theme. To book a place on the next round of Parade Laps, visit the Goodwood team in the Jackie Stewart Pavilion on the day. Places will be limited, so do book as early as possible on the relevant Sunday to avoid disappointment, with a cost is £10, part of which goes to support local nominated charities.
Most Goodwood Breakfast Club meeting are held on the first Sunday of the month, with the next event on Mothering Sunday, 3 April, when the theme will be Soft Top Sunday: This will attract open top cars of all shapes and sizes, just in time for spring, so visitors will be encouraged to bring their mum’s along as well for a special topless Mothers Day morning treat!
All Breakfast Club meetings are free to attend, and are staged from 8:00hrs to midday.
