MINI teams up with Red Bull for Red Bull Art of Motion in London

17th March 2011 Print

As part of the brand’s ongoing relationship with Red Bull, MINI will support a unique free-running event at The National Theatre, on London’s South Bank.

At 18:00 on 20th March, visitors to the UK debut of ‘Red Bull Art of Motion’ will see 24 of the world’s best free-runners leap and flip their way across the multi-leveled building as they go head-to-head in the first competition of its kind in the UK.

Free-running is a form of urban acrobatics, in which athletes perform tricks using obstacles in the environment around them; some of these obstacles include a MINI Cooper. The free-runners will pull off heart stopping gymnastic moves as they navigate their way across a designated course.

During the first round of the competition, each competitor has 90 seconds to freestyle across the course, showing-off on and utilising several different obstacles and features. The top 12 contestants, chosen by a panel of four judges, will advance to the finals for another crack at the course. On their final run they will be judged on their creativity, execution, flow, and technical difficulty, with a winner ultimately being crowned.

MINI Sickest Trick Award

Throughout the event, the judging panel will also be watching out for a free runner who performs the 'sickest trick' (aka; the BEST trick). They will be awarded with the ‘MINI Sickest Trick Trophy’ which is a MINI John Cooper Works gear stick design.

Art of Motion is not the first brand collaboration between MINI and Red Bull. MINI is a partner of Red Bull Crashed Ice, an unconventional winter sports event where groups of four athletes on ice skates plunge down an ice cross downhill track some five metres wide and peppered with bumps, jumps and banked turns.  MINI provides an athlete shuttle service with MINI Countryman for the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship and the best newcomer to the competition is presented with the MINI Rookie Award.
