It’s now exactly a year ago that the SOS Bus Luton and its little brother, a Vauxhall Vivaro, started their journey for a Safer Luton from Vauxhall’s Vivaro plant.

Since its launch in March 2010, the SOS bus, which is run by the Safer Luton Partnership and a team of well trained volunteers, has helped 550 people by providing first aid, addressing anti-social behaviour and offering advice in situations such as drug or domestic abuse.

The bus is in service every Friday and Saturday night in Luton’s St George’s square seconded by Vauxhall’s swift and agile Vivaro should any immediate transfer to another location be required.

Vauxhall has been supporting the project from the start, also providing financial assistance for the Vivaro bus and generally looking after the ‘wellbeing’ of both vehicles.

“Safety is key to our business be it in the plant, on the road or simply working in the office,” says Duncan Aldred, Managing Director Vauxhall Motors. “We are pleased to contribute to the safety of our local community by supporting the SOS Bus Luton initiative and the great impact it already has in the town centre.”
