Royal honeymoon on Croatian island?

23rd March 2011 Print

Seventy five years ago Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson sailed the Adriatic coast and stopped to swim in the privacy of the secluded bays of the Croatian island of Rab.

They had lunch in the glamorous Hotel Imperial and old photos of that era still adorn the walls.

Perhaps it was the sandy bays (rare for Croatia), perhaps it was the simple beauty of Rab or perhaps it was just not to be found.

If history repeats itself, who knows who might be enjoying a honeymoon on Rab this April? It has been reported that William and Kate don't plan to travel long haul and Rab is easily reached with a two hour flight from London  to nearby Rijeka!

On Rab, the Royal Wedding will be shown live on a giant screen in the piano bar of the Hotel Imperial. In the main town square, Rab wine and the famous Rapska torta (cake from Rab) will be served from a table by the plaque to commemorate the visit of Edward VIII and Wallis in 1936.

Guests of Essentially Prestige staying in Rab on 29 April will receive a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine served in their hotel room - to toast to the happy couple.

Love Croatia by Essentially Prestige is offering seven and 10 night stays at the four star Hotel Imperial on Rab starting from £398 per person for a seven night stay including: return flights from Stansted to Rijeka, transfers and accommodation based on two sharing on a BB basis. The package is based on a 25 April departure. The same package is available departing from Heathrow on 27th April for £519 per person.
